Spotlight on Kristy Mauer
"It is a true "team" environment within the gym & I am thrilled beyond belief to able to experience CrossFit as a family now."
Name: Kristy Mauer

How long have you been CrossFitting for: Not long enough! My husband, Tim & I joined CrossFit Fire in the summer of 2010 in hopes to shed some pounds & look "hot" for our upcoming trip. We were only there for about 2-3 months & decided to stop due to the expense & the fact that we were members at another gym. Since then, I have been running (ran a few 1/2 marathons & recently completed my first full marathon) but found myself very unhappy with my performance, appearance, & overall health. When I heard Brandon & Kristina were opening a gym, I was 100% focused on getting back into it. I remembered how good I felt during those few months & I wanted that feeling back (and my jeans to fit again!). I begged, pleaded, & may have even shed a few tears to convince my husband to let me join. Finally he said "Yes" so I have been at Prevail since mid-October. Funniest thing though, Tim started at Prevail in November (after he swore it wasn't for him!)

Biggest CrossFit Accomplishment: I think finishing some of these WOD's is an accomplishment in itself! However, I have gotten a few double unders under my belt & just a few weeks ago actually got my first Toes to Bar (T2B), which made me smile & give me a bit more confidence.

Favorite CrossFit exercise/skill to do: Hmmm....I haven't learned everything there is to learn yet, so picking a favorite is a bit difficult. I would have to say for now, I enjoy the Front Squats & I actually don't mind the Box Jumps (too much!). They kick my butt, which is what I love about them!

Least Favorite CrossFit exercise/skill to do: B-U-R-P-E-E-S

Top Short Term Goal: Unassisted Pull Up
***Pretty Sure Kristy is well on her way! This first picture on the left is her using a Green Band in October when she started. The picture on the right is her using a Red & Blue Band a few weeks ago! Great job Kristy!

Top Long Term Goal: Rx the WOD's Baby! I don't want to have to modify!

Favorite Time to Work Out each day: Morning...by night, I am tired & working out with a full belly really isn't all that enjoyable.

Favorite WOD Music: Fun, Peppy, get your *SS going music!
Favorite Healthy Food: Avocadoes!

Favorite Cheat Food: Do I have to only list one? If so, then I'll say M&M's (really any kind, but I try to be healthy & eat the almond ones!)
If you could have any super power what would it be & why? X-ray vision...so I can see everything, duh?
If you could describe CrossFit in only 3 words, what would they be? Endurance, Power, & Confidence

In 10 years where do you hope to be? Fit, Fabulous, & Happy!
Who is/are your biggest supporter/s?: My husband Tim, my step kiddos, my parents, & my friend & fellow Prevail member Tiffany
If you were trapped on a desert island what 3 things would you bring with you assuming that water, food, & shelter were already provided for? My husband, our dogs, & I suppose the kids (if they are behaving!) :)

What is the first word that comes to mind when you hear these words:
Fran: Old Lady
WOD: Hard
Beach: Water
Movie: Funny
Exercise: CrossFit
Love: Passion
Cash Out: Cha-Ching!

What is your favorite thing/s about CrossFit Prevail? The people! From the owners, to the coaches, to the members I feel like I am always welcome & people are there to not only see themselves succeed but want to help me succeed. It is a true "team" environment within the gym!
Anything else you would like to add: Even though I consider myself a "newbie" there are some still people who are just days in...for you my advice is to stay with it - Don't give up. It's overwhelming & there is A LOT to learn, but the benefits outweigh the challenges.
Remember pain is only temporary! Also remember that everyone's goals are different...don't get discouraged!
For those who have been CrossFitting for awhile......May you continue to reach & exceed your goals & remember to always lend a hand to the beginnners!
I would also like to throw a shout out to Chris & Hannah for getting us started with this crazy thing called CrossFit! I am thrilled beyond belief to be able to experience CrossFit as a family now. This is something that we not only back each of us to get stronger, but as a family we will become stronger & there is nothing else better than that.....xoxo!

Great job Kristy on pushing yourself every time you walk into the gym & always cheering others on! You always have a smile on your face! Keep working hard & you will continue to see strength gains & be RX'ing WOD's in no time!
